In school I was lucky enough to have wood shop, metal shop, and auto shop, etc. Add this to an upbringing that fostered using tools, making, and fixing things I think I'm pretty handy. If something needs fixing, I usually think to myself, "can I do that?", or more lately, "do I want to do that?" If the answer is yes. I get busy. At the same time, I've noticed the knowledge and ability to actually work on things has grown less and less. In our own business there are plenty of "handy" people who call us and want to fix their machines so they can continue making things. In many cases we can help them with the right replacement part, a new belt, electronics, or simply a little help in getting going. In other cases though, we have to tell them we
don't have parts for their machine. The manufacturer doesn't support or make the parts available. In most cases it's a cost trade-off. If all you offer is a 30-day return window, you save a lot on customer support and parts and just hope nothing happens in the first 30 days. Our goal has always been to sell machines that people could use for many years down the road and that could be maintained and upgraded as their skills and needs grew. We regularly get calls from folks still happily machining on a mill or lathe they bought over a decade ago. We have also always made sure our machines have parts list, and we carried the parts needed to repair them for many years to come.
We also offer replacement parts for other brands of lathes and mills like: Micro-Mark, Grizzly, Harbor Freight, BusyBee, Clarke, WEN, and many more.
